Philipp Zuercher – | PHIL & ZOIA – Switzerland

PHIL is Philipp Zuercher, a Swiss musician and music producer. Philipp plays original instrumental compositions and improvisations, juxtaposing progressive rock, modal jazz, modern classical and electronic music. In the late 1980s, he was one of the first electric guitarists in Switzerland to make live loops an integral part of his solo repertoire – inspired by Christy Doran.
Philipp was born in 1970. He got some very early tuition in rhythmics and classical violin. Later, he studied electric guitar, keyboards and music theory at the Swiss Jazz School et al.  Subsequently he followed several lines of business: training and working as an instrument maker and music teacher, while keeping on composing and performing. As a solo guitarist, he has toured Switzerland, England and the USA.

ZOIA is a virtual modular system by Empress Effects. For improvisatory purposes, PHIL has programmed a heap of interactive musical controls into each of his ZOIA patches, resulting in some astonishing non-synchronized loop effects, Sound input is generated by the electric guitar exclusively.
